Geometric Survey/Superload Transportation Plan, NYC

Peak Engineering provided an extensive Transportation Plan and Geometric Survey to transport nine individual sections of the antenna spire for the Freedom Tower in Manhattan. The pieces were brought in by barge and then transported through the city using Greenwich Street to the Freedom Tower site. There were multiple segments for the transport from the loading area to the site and the overnight transporter storage area. Two 8-axle trailers were connected side by side, creating a dual-lane configuration to move the pieces; the widest being 23 feet wide. This was a highly publicized project which required coordination not only with the hauler and permitting agencies, but with public relations departments for the client and the Mayor’s office.
